Siri Beckman
Printmaker and painter Siri Beckman lives in Stonington, Maine, on Deer Isle. For many years her black and white wood engravings have captured the daily life of a small fishing community, and the artist has also recently turned to painting in oils and watercolor. An artist’s residency at Acadia National Park led to other residencies at national parks, including, in fall 2010, the Grand Canyon, and in spring 2013, Mesa Verde.. Much of her recent work, while continuing to reflect her Maine roots, also depicts scenes of the American West. Siri studied book arts and printmaking at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and is an instructor in those media for the Haystack Mountain School of Craft. She has published several hand-made letterpress books with accompanying wood engraved illustrations, including A Week at the Lake, also published by Down East Books.
Her work is in many public collections, including The Farnsworth Art Museum, the Portland Museum of Art, the Boston Public Library, and the Houghton Library of Harvard University.
