Tillman Crane is a photographer of the old school. Odin Stone is the third of his photographic series to be printed as a book. The photographs are set in Orkney, an archipelago of nearly seventy islands off the northeast coast of Scotland. Tillman was first drawn there by the 5000-year-old standing stones of Stenness and of Brodgar. His fascination soon expanded to include Norse remains, the medieval cathedral, and the present-day towns, farms, and people of the islands. These photographs attend to the muted glory of the commonplace as well as the rare; to glowing whites against a dark hillside, a cloudy North Sea sky.
